The East Valley will come alive with The Sound of Music, as Copperstar Repertory Co. presents this heart-warming musical in February 2011. The Sound of Music has captured the hearts of audiences of all ages since its beginnings as a Broadway hit. This classic and endearing musical is based on the true story of Maria Rainer, a spirited young postulant, who was sent to serve as a governess for Captain Von Trapp, a widower with seven children. This Rodgers and Hammerstein`s inspirational musical features favorites such as "Climb Every Mountain", "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and, of course, "The Sound of Music".

Inspired by the timeless tales of the Brothers Grimm, Into The Woods weaves Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and other classic fairy tale characters into the story of a baker and his wife who seek to break a spell laid upon them by a crabby old witch. Each character pursues their individual wishes until their stories become entangled in unexpected ways – revealing what happens after “happily ever after.” Into The Woods is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most endeared works, appealing to audiences of all ages. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy of Grimm tales becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.
